Humans in Soft Pastels

Creating light, shadows, color fadings and variations with soft pastels allows me to convey strong emotions. When painting a portrait or a body, I mainly focus on the emotion.

Emotions are the strongest element man has to deal with. It is extremely difficult, almost impossible to master them, to hide them, to chose the way to express them and to express them correctly.

Twisted positions, tortured movements, intense look, tense lips betray the subject’s struggle with emotions, thoughts, doubts. The punctual use of cold and warm colors shows the duality of emotions. The subject occupying the entire surface of the paper is a way to prove it is completely overwhelmed by emotional ambivalence.

Using my fingers to mix and blur colors and textures is magic. It makes me feel like the artwork is an extension of my body.
